Metastatic Spinal Disease

Spinal metastases are the most common tumors found in the spine, originating from various primary cancers such as lung, breast, prostate, kidney, and thyroid. Up to 70% of cancer patients may develop spinal metastases, with about 10% experiencing spinal cord or nerve compression. Symptoms often include neck or back pain, new scoliosis, numbness, weakness, tingling, difficulty urinating or having bowel movements, and potentially paralysis. Treatment typically involves a combination of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery aimed at improving quality of life.
